Call to dentistry, duty: Two-time infantryman resumes dental career after second Army stint

WATERLOO, Iowa — It’s not odd to have a mangle between stints of active troops service. A 24-year opening is rare.

For Waterloo dentist James Townsend, 58, that camber of time wasn’t only a opening — it was a dental career.

Townsend recently returned to Waterloo from his second debate of active avocation with a U.S. Army. He has assimilated Edwards Smith Family Dentistry, 220 W. Ridgeway Ave., and will start practicing again during a commencement of September.
