Dr. Gene Paxton Lewis, who championed open health dentistry in Kentucky, dies during age 78

Dr. Gene Paxton Lewis, 78, a champion of open health dentistry, died Feb. 12 in Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.

Dr. Lewis spent some-more than 20 years with a U.S. Public Health Service, and most of that time was spent assisting rise village health centers, colleges focusing on health professions and other initiatives in Kentucky and other southeastern states.

From 1982 to 1986, he had a special assignment as executive partner to a Kentucky health services commissioner.

Dr. Lewis also worked for a University of Kentucky. He served as authority of a Department
