Scott Neeson left Hollywood to save children rooting in Cambodia's rubbish dumps

Scott Neeson’s final epiphany came one day in Jun 2004. The high-powered Hollywood executive stood, ankle low in trash, during a sprawling landfill of Stung Meanchey, a bad shantytown in Cambodia‘s capital.

In a mist of poisonous smoke and blazing waste, swarms of Phnom Penh‘s many vacant were rooting by refuse, jostling for bits of recyclables in newly dumped loads of rubbish. They warranted 4,000 riel ($1) a day – if they were lucky.

Many of a rubbish sorters were immature children. Covered in dirty rags, they were scruffy, sickly, and sad.
